Council Event: Cub Scout Summer Family Days

Posted on Apr 9 2021 - 11:49am

This is an announcement from the Capitol Area Council (also see attachment):

Aloha!

As the temperatures get hotter and the end of school is within sight, now is the time to register your family for this June's Hawaiian Hullabaloo at Camp Tom Wooten! These day events at our Cub Scout Bastrop Camp are a great way to kick off the summer and make some fun memories with your family. Keep in mind that we have purposely kept these as day events with very limited space per day due to following Covid procedures to keep your family as safe as possible. The $25 per youth and $5 per adult fee includes a fun filled day from 10am - 4pm as you escape to the islands. Please bring your own lunch, snacks, water bottles, wear your swimsuit for the pool (one pieces for the female's youth and adults) and closed toed shoes so you can enjoy all the fun the day will bring. See the attached flier for activities (some will pass off all or portions of rank advancement) and the QR code to scan that will take you to the registration link. Registration for Spring camp out open!

Posted on Apr 9 2021 - 11:46am

Hi Pack 162,

Registration for our spring camp out is now open! We will be camping at Camp Green Dickson the weekend of April 23-25.

Please read the registration details carefully as there are a number of changes from “normal” camp outs due to COVID protocols.

Pack 162 Volunteers Needed

Posted on Apr 9 2021 - 11:46am

Pack 162 is all-volunteer led. Our current Pack leadership will be aging out soon. If you are a Lion/Tiger/Wolf parent who plans to continue in the Pack next year, you need to volunteer for a Pack role. Not only will it help all scouts in the Pack, but you'll find the cub scout experience a lot more rewarding!

We need to fill the following positions soon:

  • Popcorn co-Kernel. This position is organizing our annual fundraiser. We have two Popcorn co-Kernels who serve overlapping terms, so you'll have a year to learn from our experienced Popcorn co-Kernel, before training someone to take over the following year. Great for enthusiastic and organized individuals.
  • Assistant Treasurer. Spend a year learning from our existing Treasurer and then take over as Treasurer. Responsible for working with Pack Committee to create a yearly budget, track expenses, disperse reimbursement checks. Background in Finance and experience with Quicken preferred.
  • Recruiting coordinator. Coordinate our Spring and Fall recruiting events. Collect materials from Council and organize volunteers to run recruiting events. Very small time commitment twice a year. Great for individuals who want to ensure Pack 162 continues to grow and appeal to youth.
  • Pinewood Derby Chair (incoming). Organize our yearly Pinewood Derby event. Coordinate volunteers for communication, setup and takedown, and conducting the event. Great for an individual who loves the Pinewood Derby event.
  • Pack Committee Chair (incoming). Run the monthly Pack Committee meetings, coordinating activities of all other volunteers. BSA offers special training for this position and you'll have the opportunity to learn from the existing Pack Commmittee chair for a year. Great for organized individuals who feel passionate about providing the best possible scouting experience for all of our families.
  • Pack Trainer. Help track required training for Pack leaders. Mostly an administrative job. Involves taking some training to learn what training is available and then publicizing that training to our leaders and tracking what training has been done. Can be done entirely from a computer.

Get Ready for the Pinewood Derby! (Updated with Check-In Details)

Posted on Mar 28 2021 - 10:22am

Get ready for the Pinewood Derby!

This year, we aren’t going to let a pandemic get in the way of one of the best cub scout activities of the year. The Pack Committee has come up with a great way for scouts to participate in the pinewood derby in a safe and fun way. This announcement should have all of the information you need.

What’s new this Year
This year, the pinewood derby will be conducted remotely, and scouts will watch online. Cars will be turned in well in advance of the race. Technical check-in will be conducted over a longer period by den, so that cars can be checked in safely with proper social distancing. We’ll set up individual times for families to use tools from other Pack members.

AOL Campout

Posted on Oct 9 2020 - 9:37pm

Hi Pack 162,

We are opening up registration for the camp sites we have at Emma Long Park for the weekend of Nov 6-9. Due to construction at the park and social-distancing limitations, we only have 10 sites available. Registration is limited to AOL Scouts and parent(s) as this will be a good opportunity for the Scouts to finish many of their requirements before moving on to Scouts BSA in the spring. The sites are spaced out every-other site to allow for plenty of room between tents. Please register below so we can assess how many sites will be needed.
